Lovely showroom in Uphall and plenty of product on display. Ended up getting bifolding doors last year so my review is long overdue. Recently had a remedial issue and the customer care I received was great. I must thank Callum for arranging for replacement parts and for a fitter to attend. Thank you ekco.

Had a great experience with ekco from start to finish. The staff were very helpful and communicated well throughout our project. The tradesmen were efficient and showed up on time. I was very impressed by their standard of workmanship and how they would tidy up after themselves. Everything was completed in a timely manner and I’m delighted with my new bathroom.

Our client owned a beautiful traditional detached stone property in Edinburgh, full of character and quirks, tall ceilings, ornate cornice detail and large bay windows flooding the property with light. Having renovated most of the house since moving in, the kitchen was the last room to tackle to complete their family home.
My clients like to socialise, so it was essential to create a space they could use for dinner parties and entertaining that had added a wow factor. They wanted to make a striking room that would be the centrepiece of their home, which created drama but also functioned well for their busy family & working lives. With two teenage children, the kitchen needed to be practical and user-friendly, with a place to hide everything. Their current kitchen didn’t meet their needs, and with a fixed peninsula, it created a block to the dining.
The Approach
Striving for the ideal blend of kitchen and dining spaces, the designer prioritised spaciousness and smooth flow, ensuring the couple’s gatherings felt comfortable and uncluttered. A large double doorway flooded the area with natural light across from a stunning bay window, providing the perfect setting for the couple’s precious retro wood and glass dining table. Considering this, the designer incorporated a spacious feature island with comfortable bar stool seating centred around a dramatic Elica Getup flex induction hob and downdraft extractor in sleek black, emerging seamlessly from the island worktop.
The handleless Pronorm Y-line range selection for kitchen furniture features clean lines and a captivating Nero Chalet door with a profound black wood effect and visible texture. Dark stratus grey pearl carcasses maintained the striking ambience even when the cabinets were opened. The alluring contrast of dark furniture against a light quartz countertop with dark veining extended into two waterfall gable ends on the island creates a bold statement. Simple yet beautiful textures and colours fulfilled the client’s desire for a striking design.
The straight run of units along the island housed a matte black undermount sink and a matching Quooker hot water tap seamlessly integrated into the worktop. Siemens appliances from the black Studioline range, including a central oven, compact combination oven, integrated larder fridge, and dishwasher, complemented the monochrome colour scheme. Taking advantage of the room’s tall ceiling height, the designer crafted an eye-catching feature wall with open shelves formed by 50mm panel matching material, allowing the clients to display their personal art items and infuse the kitchen with their unique touch. A hidden recess at the kitchen window concealed a shallower “secret” larder for conveniently storing frequently used food items during cooking.
On the opposite end of the room, the designer aimed for a furniture-like appearance alongside the dining table. Behind double doors, a hidden “breakfast” unit housed drawers for storing bowls, plates, and other items, with a concealed quartz worktop for the toaster and hot chocolate machine. Illuminated shelves above provided easy access to cereals and jars, enhanced by a surrounding LED strip light that activated upon door opening. Integrating a full-height Liebherr wine cabinet in the centre of this unit, a single tap on the glass front automatically opened the door, adding an elegant touch. A single larder unit with integrated pull-outs and a quartz countertop discreetly hid the coffee machine and cups. In contrast, the bank of units concluded with an integrated Siemens full-height freezer.
In addition to functional lighting, the designer emphasised creating a captivating lighting scheme. LED strip lights adorned the open recess shelves, illuminated beneath the wall units, and enhanced the larder units, all controlled by a single remote. Pendant lights selected by the clients gracefully adorned the island and dining table, seamlessly tying the design together.
