Lovely showroom in Uphall and plenty of product on display. Ended up getting bifolding doors last year so my review is long overdue. Recently had a remedial issue and the customer care I received was great. I must thank Callum for arranging for replacement parts and for a fitter to attend. Thank you ekco.

Had a great experience with ekco from start to finish. The staff were very helpful and communicated well throughout our project. The tradesmen were efficient and showed up on time. I was very impressed by their standard of workmanship and how they would tidy up after themselves. Everything was completed in a timely manner and I’m delighted with my new bathroom.

THERMALLY EFFICIENT, LOW U-VALUE WINDOWS & ENERGY EFFICIENT WINDOWS

Thermally Efficient, Low U-Value Windows & Energy Efficient Windows

Over the last few years, we have seen household and business costs increase dramatically in Scotland and across the UK. The most obvious price hike has been in the energy sector so if there are ways in which we can reduce our gas and electricity costs then it makes financial and environmental sense to do so. Switching energy suppliers could be the first decision we make but this will only reduce our costs so far.

Another way is to reduce the amount of energy we use which is not only good for our pockets, but also good for the environment too. One of the best ways to do this is to replace our old windows with thermally efficient, low u-value windows from EKCO. There are different types of thermally efficient windows to choose from. Here is a just a small example of the range available.

How Are Energy Efficient Windows Graded?

The energy efficiency of windows is graded with a rating from the most efficient which is A++ to the least efficient which is G. UK building regulations stipulate that new windows must at the very least have achieved a C rating.

However, if your budget can stretch a little further to allow you to invest in windows with a B rating, you will very soon recoup the extra spend in energy savings.

      Timber Energy Efficient Windows

Timber is naturally energy efficient and timber windows not only look beautiful they will keep your home warm in the coldest of Scottish winters. Why is this:

      • Timber has been used in home building for centuries and timber windows have a timeless appeal and naturally retain warmth which makes them suitable for every style of property – even homes which are exposed to the coldest weather conditions
      • Most timber window frames are finger-jointed which means the wood is cut to resemble ‘fingers’ which not only creates an airtight seal, it also makes the frame stronger which means that you can have your windows in longer frame sizes. So, no matter the size of the window frames, they will keep cold air out and warm air in
      • Timber is a low conductor of heat therefore timber windows do not need a thermal break, which is a non-metallic barrier, inserted within the frame as is the case with aluminium windows.

      Aluminium Windows

Aluminium is one of the most environmentally friendly building materials on Earth and can be recycled time and again without losing any of its original properties. The only drawback is that aluminium is not the most energy efficient material for window construction.

However, all EKCO aluminium windows contain a thermal break which is a layer of non-metal material contained within each frame which drastically reduce heat loss. Add to this the pliability of aluminium, combined with its strength and low maintenance, and we have the perfect material for manufacturing windows for modern architecturally designed homes.

      Aluminium Clad Thermally Efficient Windows

Timber windows are naturally beautiful and energy efficient. Aluminium windows are strong and are made thermally efficient by adding a thermal break within the frame. But what happens when we combine these two eco-friendly, sustainable materials? The result is the aluminium clad or aluclad window which delivers the perfect combination of beauty and strength.

      • Aluminium clad timber windows, or Aluclad as they are also known are composed of timber frames with an outer layer of aluminium which adds a further protective coating. This means that they will require very little, if any, maintenance during their lifetime
      • Aluclad windows are the perfect choice for home or business owners whose properties are located within coastal regions as the salt in the air can eventually shorten the lifespan of full-timber windows
      • Aluminium by itself is a poor heat insulator but by adding a thermal break within aluminium frames they do become thermally efficient. However, Aluclad windows offer the best of both worlds because by adding a layer of aluminium cladding to timber framed windows, they will become even more energy efficient than if the frames were manufactured purely from timber or aluminium alone

Choice of Window Styles From EKCO

Whether you decide to choose timber, aluminium, or aluclad thermally efficient windows for your home or business, EKCO has a wide range of designs and styles to suit from side-swing and top swing windows to casement, bay and gable windows and all are available in either double or triple glazed options to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.
